Skincare For Feeling, Looking, And Smelling COOL

Here in LA, we’ve reached peak 90 degree summer temperatures. We’re blessed with a dry desert heat, but perhaps where you live, you’re getting a pleasant dose of humidity. No matter the weather report, your skin is certainly craving some cooling hydration. Might I point you to a few skincare solutions, courtesy of this week’s launches?

Soft Services partnered with D.S. & DURGA on a limited-edition Debaser Buffing Bar, a fusion of Soft Services’ cult-favorite physical exfoliation and the fragrance brand’s captivating scent. Superfine sanding crystals meet a moisturizing, soothing base, and your shower becomes a happy place, infused with an airy essence of ripe fig, iris, coconut milk, tonka, and dry blond woods. It’s Soft Services’ first-ever collaboration, a deliberate and meaningful step into the world of scent – a notable departure from the brand’s signature fragrance-free formulas. Keeping my fingers crossed that it’s just the beginning of more to come.

Celebrity skincare brands are often all celeb, no actual skincare, but The Outset might be my latest exception. Scarlett Johansson’s Goop-approved, hydrating, plant-powered line of gentle skincare has been steadily racking up thousands of five-star reviews. This month, the brand capitalized on summer heatwaves with the launch of its Cool Cream Smoothing Mask. Formulated with “Electric Daisy,” a botanical powerhouse that both immediately cools your complexion and smoothes fine lines, the mask also packs Arnica, Linseed Extract, and the brand’s signature hydrating Hyaluroset Complex.

These last items aren’t necessarily new, but I’m sharing them with you on a need-to-know basis, because the hottest days of summer demand that you have your favorite toner on hand. Tower 28’s SOS Rescue Spray, powered by anti-inflammatory and antibacterial hypochlorous acid, is the ideal pick for a post-workout, post-sunburn, and post-anything-you-do-in-summer refresh that’ll tackle redness and irritation while simultaneously preventing bacteria-fueled breakouts. OSEA’s Sea Minerals Mist is my pre-bedtime MVP. CAP Beauty’s Serotoner does the trick for immediately happier, healthier skin after a long beach day in the sun (and smells amazing, too). If you’d like to be a little bit of a genius, keep one of these in your glove compartment and another in your fridge.

Choose Your EVOO Fighter

The EVOO cup runneth over. It’s no secret – the market is oversaturated. (I won’t make a joke here about olive oil itself being unsaturated, because I possess self-restraint.) But there are two contenders that clearly rise above the rest, and they both have new launches you’ll want in your kitchen. Or closet.

Brightland’s new Pizza Night Set is exactly what it sounds like: a trio of the brand’s cult-favorite Pizza Oil, Alive oil, and Rapture vinegar for elevating your next pizza party – and a brushed gold, stainless steel spout for limiting oil spillage. Fold that cold-pressed EVOO into your homemade dough or simply drizzle the hot and herbaceous Pizza Oil on your favorite delivery pizza. Rapture for your side salad, with summer tomatoes from the market. That is, ultimately, amore.

While Brightland leans into its quality pantry essentials, Graza works its way into your wardrobe. To prolong the buzz around their new Refill Cans, the brand partnered with Pabst Blue Ribbon this week on a “Nice Cans” t-shirt that angles to capture the hearts of Graza superfans and teenage boys alike. 

New Collections For Camping And Fall Pieces That Feel Like Summer, Forever

The autumnal collections continue to roll out, despite the aforementioned weather report. Use these launches as opportunities to engage in escapist fantasies of a crisp October amidst golden-hued foliage. MOTHER’s new outdoor-inspired collection will take you there. Get your glamping ensemble sorted with a collared zip-up that could blend into a camping blanket; that perfect pair of overalls; of course, excellent denim. For the GORP-core curious. 

For the girl who’s certainly not camping in this dress, see: Ciao Lucia’s Fall collection. Unfortunately it’s very perfect and will cost you a small fortune to acquire, but you must. Particularly if you plan to spend the coming months in a sea or lakeside town, because these blue and white hues were born for some waterfront action. (Hopefully you’re somehow blessed with summer getaways that linger on till fall. If not, there are plenty of pieces for layering come actual autumnal weather.)

Things For Eating, Drinking, And Caffeinating

At this point, we can assume there’s at least one new Erewhon smoothie every week. This week, there are two. First we’re working with “Paradise Punch,” Erewhon’s first energy drink smoothie made with GORGIE, an AAPI and female-founded energy drink brand. Tastes like tropical fruit, made more Erewhon with biotin, B-vitamins, and 50mg of caffeine. (You’re actually MAKING money, because you’ll get your morning coffee and a smoothie in one. Should I become a financial advisor?)

Sabrina Carpenter’s smoothie misses an opportunity to reference espresso and instead makes what I at first thought was an allusion to her height, but is actually the title of her album: “Short N’ Sweet.” It’s got a little Agent Nateur for healthy hair, skin, and nails, and the usual Erewhon touches, like spirulina and sweet summer fruits to make the marine collagen go down a little easier.

Poog dropped a limited-edition Lychee Martini edible with the brilliant minds over at Rose Los Angeles. Paying homage to Kate Berlant and Jacqueline Novak’s beloved Jar, each edible packs just 1 mg THC, so you can kick back, relax, and hold scintillating conversation with your best friend. 

Last but obviously never least, Fishwife re-launched its Smoked Rainbow Trout after two years of R&D. If you, like me, already loved the original, the 2.0 will make your week: caramelized, buttery, juicy, and sourced from Denmark, where standards for aquaculture are among the highest in the world.
