These Glyphosate-Free Matcha Oats Keep Me Full Until Lunch – And They’re Gut-Friendly, Too

In partnership with Quite Nice. Editor’s Note: We only select and work with partners that meet our quality standards, so you can rest assured we only endorse products we believe in.

While ‘hot girls have IBS’ has become the rallying cry for girls with stomach issues everywhere, IBS and gastrointestinal problems at large are actually on the rise for most Americans. Perhaps that’s why gut health – which is linked to both our mental and physical health – has become such a buzzword in the past few years. As with any health trend, the world of gut and gastrointestinal health can be pretty daunting to navigate. Where to begin? Which products are legit? Should I really be taking this many supplements?

Enter Quite Nice, a brand committed to revolutionizing gut health through convenient and delicious foods. The brand is taking things back to the basics with a line of fiber-rich, protein-packed oats designed for optimal gut health. As the adage goes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day – and Quite Nice takes that role seriously: the brand claims it can improve microbiome health, improve digestive regularity, reduce cravings naturally, and reduce bloating. Of course I tried it! Here’s the scoop…

Let’s Cut To The Chase: Does It Work?

I don’t have a meaningful way to measure my microbiome health, so I can’t necessarily speak to how that’s going since I started eating Quite Nice for breakfast (more on the myriad ways I’ve done that below). I can, however, speak to my digestive regularity, cravings and bloating. In short, Quite Nice has kept me regular – and prompt (if you’d like additional information, you’ll have to reach out directly for details). It’s also kept me full: while I used to require a morning snack to tide me over until my noon lunch, after drinking a smoothie with Quite Nice in it, I’ve actually been eating a later lunch (around 1:30 pm) and have been noticeably less hungry between meals (the day goes by so much faster when you aren’t counting down the minutes to lunch – who knew?).

Quite Nice’s not-so-secret ingredient is Resistant Starch, a prebiotic that optimizes a healthy microbial balance in the GI tract and enhances the abundance of beneficial flora; it also helps keep you fuller and reduces hunger because it’s digested slowly and prevents blood sugar spikes and crashes. When I asked Quite Nice founder Kayden Horwitz about RS, he shared: “In ancient times, it was a natural part of many foods consumed by our ancestors, found in whole grains, seeds, legumes, and tubers. These foods provided a source of starch that resists digestion in the small intestine and ferments in the large intestine, promoting beneficial gut bacteria.”

The rise of processed foods in the 1950s threw a wrench in things, as “the processing methods often stripped away the fibrous parts of foods, including the Resistant Starch. As a result, many contemporary diets lack this crucial component, which is essential for maintaining a healthy gut microbiome.” While we’re talking about contemporary diets, I’ll also note that these oats are glyphosate-free. Glyphosate is an herbicide that kills certain weeds and grasses and is commonly found in oats; if you’ve cut oats out of your diet for this reason, Quite Nice allows you to reintroduce them into your diet.

OK, But Does It Taste Good?

Surprisingly good! Quite Nice is actually an instant oatmeal, but tastes nothing like those ultra-sugary sachets of your childhood. It comes in four flavors (Creamy Match & Vanilla, Rich Cacao & Sea Salt, Spiced Turmeric & Cardamom, and Classic Cinnamon & Sugar) and has the rich and thick consistency of slow-cooked oatmeal even though it’s ready in just 2 minutes and 30 seconds. The texture, Horwitz explains, “comes from a combination of two different sizes of organic, glyphosate-free oat flakes, plus the fiber from chia seeds, flax, and resistant starch.” And the flavors are real, simple, and pretty mild.

Quite Nice’s packaging notes that you can simply add hot water to create a delicious oatmeal; or you can add milk and leave it in the fridge overnight to make overnight oats; or you can add it into a smoothie to kick things up a notch. Because I received my delivery just as summer temps hit Los Angeles, I’ve enjoyed adding Quite Nice into a smoothie, though I’ve tried all three methods and have enjoyed them tremendously. I tore through the Rich Cacao & Sea Salt first, but each flavor really is delicious – and even more so when dressed up with fresh or frozen fruit and a nut butter.

A fiber-rich way to start my day

Each is made with real ingredients (Spiced Turmeric & Cardamom, for example, contains organic oats, hemp seed protein, maple sugar, resistant potato starch, organic chia seeds, organic hulled buckwheat, sea salt, organic cardamom, and organic turmeric – that’s all). Plus, each sachet contains 10g protein, 8g fiber, and is Certified Low FODMAP, Refined-Sugar Free, Nut-Free, Gluten-Free, Glyphosate-Free, and made in a Dedicated Top 14 Allergen-Free Facility.

Go With Your Gut

The best companies are personal, and Quite Nice is just that. The inspiration for the brand actually came from Horwitz’s sister, who struggled with IBS for years and had a lot of trouble getting the right kind of fiber. “When we spoke with doctors and researchers,” Horwitz explains, “they confirmed how widespread this issue was and highlighted the urgent need for foods that could enhance gut health without demanding big lifestyle changes. We realized we could create something truly impactful, a product that would make it easier for people to achieve better digestive health and overall well-being.” The brand is delivering in spades and will be a fun one to follow. It’s delicious, it’s nutritious – and a total no-brainer when it comes to busy mornings or on-the-go afternoons.
