This time, the story’s about a family in Nantucket (the Winburys) celebrating the marriage of their son Benji to a zoologist, Amelia. If you’ve already seen The Perfect Couple on Netflix, can we talk about that toast about the snakes and the penguins? Be still my beating heart. But there’s a snake in the den, because early on in the first episode, a body floats up on the lake, the bride’s screaming in shock in a dripping-wet wedding dress worn a day early, and the police are investigating a murder of a guest.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a bestselling novelist in possession of a 20-million-dollar beach cottage must be in want of a fracture-free family, and Greer’s entire wardrobe is meant to convey sleek invincibility. She molded herself to be the ideal wife to her husband, Tag — hence their “perfect couple” moniker — and is endlessly frustrated that Amelia doesn’t seem to put the same emphasis on appearances.
Her style includes silky blouses with sheer or tie details, a stunning icy-blue rehearsal dinner gown (which you can shop yourself for a cool $1,815), and knit cardigans. She dresses as a slightly crisper, more luxurious version of the coastal grandmother aesthetic popularized in summer 2022. (Greer would scoff at all the TikTok imitations; airy linens and wide-brimmed hats are not enough to belong to the upper set.) Abby Judges Everything in a Cheerful, Innocent Frock
Greer’s pregnant daughter-in-law Abby often steals the scenes with her looks—both her outfits and her side-eyes. Merritt Isn’t One for Decorum, But Being a Free Spirit Ain’t Free
The bubbly maid of honor, who’s arguably the bride’s one pillar of support during the intimidating chaos of wedding weekend, isn’t afraid to let her desires be known. Similarly, she spends a lot of her visit broadcasting her outfits and company, so you just know those affiliate links are a-blazing on her Instagram stories. For now, we’ll take over the duty.
Merritt loves to make a splash, and frankly, ignore some of the icy etiquette enforced by Greer and co. Her outfits have cutouts, sheer panels, and color, but still might include some items with a heftier price tag—just in more of a Cult Gaia and Revolve festival way rather than a burn-and-churn TikTok haul way. Her outfits might be body-conscious, but her behavior is not always. Wearing a coverup similar to this one to the rehearsal dinner, even a beachfront one, was perhaps not the way to endear herself to her best friend’s future in-laws, but let’s just say she loves to make a splash.

Amelia Is the Woman of the Hour—Who Fades into the Background
This laid-back zoologist entered the family to express her love for her fiancé, Benji, but her doubts about the wedding only feed her exclusion. Does she really want to be a part of this whole money show, and even then, does she love him enough in the first place to consider it? Her cold feet don’t go without notice, especially when she becomes central to unraveling the murder mystery central to the plot. After all, why was she wearing her wedding gown the night of?
Her choice in wedding gown made her wardrobe aesthetic especially clear: functional, flattering, but nearly forgettable. She’d love to sink back into the shadows, but she’s in the spotlight whether she likes it or not. She’s wearing denim jackets from sturdy heritage brands (like this Wrangler pick), easy slip dresses in stylish colors (like this one from Hutch), and soft sweater tops from Anthropologie now that she’s no longer, you know, wrangling snakes every Saturday.
To put it this way: her individual wardrobe selects are usually brand staples that are evergreen and frequently restocked—lucky for us. The boldest she gets is in a red tulle gown similar to this Tuckernuck pick at her rehearsal dinner which similarly, is an unconventional choice for a bride.
A Round of Applause for the Men’s Summer Fashions! And for Pops of Color!
The Winbury men (and their peers) know how to dress. According to the costume designer Signe Sejlund, color—or lack thereof—was key in emphasizing the Winburys’ status on Nantucket. They could wear creams and lights and “risky” fabrics because they don’t have to worry about spills or anything out of place; there is another, thousand-dollar item exactly like it hanging in the closet, with staff on hand to press and steam.
You’re not getting boring, carbon-copy suits, no. You’re getting handkerchiefs, ties with a sense of place, and dashing silhouettes in funky colors and fabrics. The men were all confident almost to the point of recklessness, and that bled over into the wardrobe too.
Colors could get playful. Obviously, the costume designer had to throw in some Nantucket reds—a red-washed canvas associated with the area. Personally, we were also obsessed with the family’s matching navy monogrammed robes with orange trim—and you better believe they’re Ralph Lauren.
